Some jewellery is simply beautiful. Other pieces carry stories, memories, and the people we never want to forget.
One of my favourite parts of being a jeweller is helping breathe new life into inherited jewellery. These pieces can sometimes be beyond repair, or simply out of style, and rather than leaving treasured pieces unworn, they can be transformed into something contemporary, practical, and deeply meaningful.
Recently, I had the privilege of remodelling a delicate gold chain that had belonged to Lucy’s grandmother. While Lucy loved the chain, it was no longer suited to economical repair, but its sentimental value was priceless. She wanted to honour those memories by creating a piece she could wear every day.
Giving New Life to Family Gold
The original chain was carefully melted down and refined before becoming the starting point for a completely bespoke ring. The design centred around a hand-carved ring with soft, feminine detailing. Every curve and texture was carefully carved into the recycled family gold, allowing the finished piece to feel both timeless and unique.
Crafted by Hand, Made with Meaning
This ring was entirely handcrafted, with every detail thoughtfully considered. The result is an elegant, feminine, everyday ring that feels effortlessly wearable, while quietly carrying generations of family history.
With the remaining gold, I also created two delicate stacking rings to sit beautifully on either side of the main ring. Together, the three rings create a beautifully balanced stack that can be worn as a complete set or individually, giving Lucy the freedom to style them in different ways.
It's a wonderful reminder that sentimental jewellery doesn't have to stay hidden away for safekeeping. By remodelling inherited jewellery into designs you'll reach for every morning, those memories become part of your daily life.
